Chicken Bone VFX Brings The Queen's Gambit to Life

In our latest interview, we talked to Chicken Bone VFX about their work on several seasons of Westworld and Netflix's upcoming psychological thriller series The Queen's Gambit starring Anya Taylor-Joy, which premiered Oct. 23. The team discusses their extensive work specializing in 2D and 3D photoreal visual effects, and about being pioneers in virtual production (a handshake between physical production and digital vfx creating a mixed reality).

They also breakdown their development process of The Queen's Gambit chess pieces (rigging, animation and integration of the chess pieces) as well as other cool stuff like their 3D set extensions, matte paintings and period-specific modifications.
