An interview from the 2017 NAB NY Show in New York City with Jason Druss of Blackmagic Design. Blackmagic Design creates the world’s highest quality video editing products, digital film cameras, color correctors, video converters, video monitoring, routers, live production switchers, disk recorders, waveform monitors and real time film scanners for the feature film, post production and television broadcast industries. In this interview we talk with Jason about their SSD Recorder Module for the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro.

The Blackmagic URSA Mini SSD Recorder now lets you record Cinema DNG or ProRes files directly to standard inexpensive 2.5 inch SSD media. The recording module uses a 6G-SDI data link and connects to the camera’s back plate between the camera and battery ensuring everything is controlled directly from the camera, so you don’t have to operate the recorder separately. The SSDs can even be mounted on your computer using a Blackmagic MultiDock so you can edit and color correct right from the cards.

Jason also mentions the Blackmagic URSA Mini Mic Mount kit, which includes both a flat mount and an angled mount, along with two screws for securing the mounts to the camera. The microphone holder features rubber o-ring bands to isolate the microphone from vibration and shock, and to eliminate noise from bumps while recording. The flat mount can be used on larger rigs to keep the microphone away from other accessories, and the angled mount is perfect for compact rigs.
