An interview from the 2023 NAB Show in New York City with Rich Eilers at the Canon USA Booth.

At the NAB NY Show, Canon showcased a wide range of broadcast cameras, lenses and controllers. Canon's new CJ20ex5B is part of Canon's 4K UHDxs family of broadcast lenses. The UHDxs series provides outstanding optical performance, including sharp resolution from image center to edge and minimized chromatic aberration in virtually any shooting condition.

The CJ20ex5B has a wide-angle focal length of 5 mm and class-leading* 20x zoom, a versatile focal length that offers broadcasters several shooting options. In addition to enhanced operability and durability, this portable lens delivers 4K UHD optical performance in a light and compact body.

Capture up to 8K optical performance with your PL-mount camera and the CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens from Canon. This HDR-compatible, ENG-style zoom lens' 15-120mm focal length can easily be increased to 22.5-180mm for longer shots using its built-in 1.5x extender. Optimized lens coatings and 8K-compatible chromatic aberration correction help to reduce flares and ghosting, so your images remain clear and saturated. Compatible with both Super35 and full-frame sensors, the CINE-SERVO 15-120mm shares the warm colors and lovely skin tones of the rest of the Cinema EOS line and features an 11-blade iris for creamy bokeh effects.

If you have a professional production or outdoor environment that requires remotely controlled cameras with minimal crew and a high-resolution output, the titanium white CR-X300 Outdoor 4K PTZ Camera with 20x Zoom from Canon will fit right into your house of worship, corporate conference room, government application, courtroom, broadcast streaming production, event space, or even add an extra camera to your documentary shoot. With its weather-resistant exterior paint, durable aluminum body, interior fan, IP65 waterproof rating, and built-in lens wiper, it can also be used for outdoor surveillance and security.

The CR-X300 sports many features of a Canon camcorder such as a 1/2.3" dual-pixel CMOS sensor, Hybrid AF, the Canon DIG!C DV6 image processor, scene modes, IR (infrared) mode, 20x optical zoom, 20x digital zoom, built-in waterproof microphone, and video capture and output up to UHD 4K. The camera also includes NDI|HX support without requiring a separate license, allowing you to drop the camera into your existing NDI network with minimal configuration.

Where the PTZ camera diverges from the camcorders is in its remote resources such as control via IP and RS-422 serial as well as HDMI, 6G-SDI, and IP streaming outputs, and compatibility with the Canon RC-IP100 IP PTZ remote controller. It can perform smooth, precision pan, tilt, and zoom movements with a speed range of 0.3 to 60° per second.

Control your Canon PTZ cameras using IP or serial control with precision controls and a touchscreen display with the RC-IP1000 Advanced PTZ Controller from Canon. This sophisticated controller is compatible with the Canon PTZ cameras such as the CR-N100 and allows a single operator to control up to 200 cameras from a remote location. The 7" touchscreen provides configuration and camera settings control and allows you to view up to nine cameras on-screen at once.
The RC-IP1000 is compatible with the proprietary Canon XC IP protocol, so you can create a private, secure network to control your cameras using the LAN port. It also features a second RJ45 port that allows you to control the cameras via RS-422 serial protocol. The unit supports input and output of up to 4K60 video via the 12G-SDI ports, and it also supports HDMI output to send video to switchers or additional displays. Tally is also supported to send tally light information between the controller and cameras.
