Otto Nemenz International Receives First Fujifilm/fujinon Premista Large Format Cinema Zoom
FUJINON PREMISTA 28-100mm T2.9 Now Shipping

Valhalla, N.Y., August 28, 2019 – The Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM North America Corporation has delivered the first FUJINON® PREMISTA® 28-100mm T2.9 (PREMISTA 28-100mm) large format lens to Otto Nemenz International, Inc., based in Hollywood, California. The PREMISTA 28-100mm is the first model in the new series of cinema zoom lenses that deliver the full benefit of a purpose-built cine lens and stunning optical quality to large format sensor cameras.

Otto Nemenz, a staple in the motion picture industry with a vast history of renting film and digital camera packages for major films and television series, was the first rental house to purchase the FUJINON Premier zooms 10 years ago. Nemenz was the first to project and evaluate the prototype PREMISTA, immediately placing the first large purchase order for both the PREMISTA 28-100mm and the PREMISTA 80-250mm T2.9-3.5, which is currently anticipated to ship later this year. As an early adopter and loyal supplier of FUJINON’s cine zooms, Fujifilm could not find a more deserving partner than Otto Nemenz International, Inc. to receive this first PREMISTA.

“I have always been impressed with the cinema look that FUJINON’s Premier line offers, so it was a fairly easy decision to place an order for the new PREMISTA series,” said Nemenz. “The quality of the lenses, along with the size and the focal lengths offered also played a large factor in the decision.” Otto Nemenz has supported many top cinematographers and shows using FUJINON Premier zooms for commercials, features, and television. Nemenz concludes, “The PREMISTA zooms will be a solid addition to any camera package.”

For nearly 20 years, Fujifilm has been making high-quality optics for Super-35 sensor cameras in the successful FUJINON Premier, Cabrio and MK ranges of lenses. In recent years, many digital cinema camera manufacturers have launched cameras equipped with large format sensors* to give cinematographers a different format to help them bring their vision to the screen. Consequently, there is now demand for zoom lenses that not only cover the image circle of the new sensors, but that also provide high optical performance and versatility.

In response to this demand, Fujifilm released the PREMISTA 28-100mm (USD $38,800), which will be followed by the launch of the PREMISTA 80-250mm (USD $39,800) before the end of 2019. Together, the lenses will cover the most frequently used focal lengths from 28mm to 250mm. The PREMISTA 28-100mm has a constant T2.9 speed** across the entire zoom range, and the PREMISTA 80-250mm has a constant T2.9 speed from 80-200mm before gradually ramping less than full stop to T3.5 between 201-250mm. Both lenses cover a 46.3mm image circle, which covers almost all current large format digital cinema cameras available for purchase***.

The PREMISTA 28-100mm is a standard zoom lens that covers 28-100mm focal lengths. Since this is normally covered by six different prime lenses****, the lens can help to save time frequently spent changing lenses on productions. It is especially convenient when the camera is on a crane or helicopter, where it is often difficult to access the lens.

A new 13-blade iris allows for a pleasant bokeh effect, and a wide dynamic range of light can be captured thanks to dedicated optical design to suppress unwanted flare and ghosting. Thanks to its large-diameter aspherical lens elements and new focus/zoom system, the PREMISTA series achieves stunning optical quality from the center to the corner at all focal lengths. The focus ring has a 280-degree angle turn with smooth torque and the lens weighs only 3.8kg/8.3 lbs., yet is still very durable, allowing professional use even in harsh conditions.

Fujifilm has been deeply rooted in the film industry since its first product, motion picture film, was launched in 1934. Fujifilm started research and development of cine lenses in 1999; 18 years later, FUJINON Cine Zoom Lenses were awarded a 69th Engineering Emmy® Award by the Television Academy*****. The company’s motion picture heritage and cinema lens experience provide the foundation for all FUJINON lenses. FUJINON’s cine lenses have captured stunning images in countless award-winning popular films and television series.

The PREMISTA 28-100mm is now shipping worldwide. The 80-250mm will begin shipping before the end of 2019.
